Arrows Add McKenzie To Backcourt

Head Coach Jonny Kelly has secured his second new summer signing by bringing in guard Callum McKenzie for his debut season at the club.

The 24 year old Sheffield native is the second new signing of the 2018 off season following the announcement of the signing of Liam Knapp in July. The Arrows latest signing is a combo guard that can operate in both the point guard and shooting guard positions.

The 6'3 guard hails from the Hillsborough area of Sheffield and took his first steps into the sport of basketball when he joined the Sheffield Junior Sharks. Whilst developing his game as junior, McKenzie was making an impression on the Sheffield Basketball League circuit, as he lead his team to the SBL Division 1 title as a teenager alongside fellow Arrow Joseph Baugh.

Upon graduating from the Junior NBL, the athletic guard was a regular starter for former NBL Division 3 side Sheffield Saints. McKenzie was a consistent scorer in the Saints NBL Division 3 title charge and it was at this point Coach Kelly looked closer at the talents of McKenzie, inviting him to play on the Arrows summer league squad.

With the recent maturity in his play and ability to lead a team, Coach Kelly felt the timing was right to bring the talented guard to the Arrows. After securing the signature of McKenzie, Coach Kelly commented:

The signing of Callum allows the team to make positive steps forward. He brings great length and athleticism at the guard position. I look forward to coaching him through his first season at this level, one which I anticipate will be a successful one.

McKenzie, along with his new team mates, began pre season training this week ahead of the new season. On joining the Arrows, McKenzie said:

I'm happy to be joining the Arrows for the 2018/19 season. We have some talented players who are competitive and I'm excited to be playing alongside them.

McKenzie is due to make his Arrows debut against Team USA Select on Friday 7th September, before making his competitive debut against Ipswich in the Patrons Cup on Saturday 22nd September.
