Derbyshire Arrows 74 Leeds Carnegie 79

The Derbyshire Arrows continued their exciting start to their campaign with a narrows loss to the runners up of last season. The young Arrows team started slowly out the blocks as Leeds Carnegie took an early 15-3 lead. But scores from Ross Walcott and Aidan Dennison got things back on track as the Arrows faught back to 19-10 behind at the first quarter break. The second quarter started the same as the first as Carnegie started with a 8-0 run. But then the Arrows picked up their defense and rebounding as James Bennet started to rebound very well. Walcott and Dennison continued their scoring as well as Connor Hicken chipping in the for the Whites. Coach Kelly called for a push to finish the quarter with 2 minutes left and the Arrows found hope as they got good play and a couple of baskets to finish the half 39-26 behind.

The third quarter started positively for the Arrows as they continued to assault the Leeds Carnegie basket a basket from Ellis Salim and a flurry of baskets from Dennison resulted in a 28-13 quarter. Dennison scored 13 points in the quarter as the Arrows took the lead with just a quarter to go 52-50. Leeds Carnegie started the fourth quarter aggresively with a 12-2 run to build a 10 point lead in just 4 minutes, But the Arrows weren't ready to throw the towel in yet. The Arrows replied with a 6-0 run of their own through Dennison and Walcott scoring the baskets. But the Arrows couldn't get back at Carnegie despite Salim and Wadha Hassan hitting a 3 pointer each as the Arrows chased the game.

This result leaves the young Arrows team 2-2 in the league, but the Arrows have played the top 2 teams of last year away from home already. Coach Jonathan Kelly said "It looks like a promising start and a good sign for an exciting year. We hope we can continue to impress in the division and fight all the way. We are aiming for the playoffs after finding our benchmark against the top 2 teams".
