Slow start sends Arrows U14 to defeat

Arrows 59 Newcastle 75

The Arrows struggled in the first quarter to cope with a powerful Newcastle side who took a decisive 30 – 6 advantage in the game. The Arrows clawed their way back in the following 3 quarters but left themselves too much to do.

The first quarter saw only points from Aiden Dennison as the usually dominant Ross Walcott found his shots failing to drop amongst the often triple – teaming Newcastle defence.

Coach Jonathan Kelly reorganised in the second quarter and points from Walcott, Dennison and Ellis Salim saw the Arrows gain parity in the game taking the quarter 14 – 12 to trail by 25 – 50.

The Arrows now putting their stamp on the game dominated the third quarter with points from Hicken, Walcott and Ellis Salim to close the gap at 47 – 58 with a quarter to play.

Sadly the tiring Arrows could only share the final quarters to slip to a 59 – 75 defeat. However they will take many positives from this experience; a great debut from Zorian Zaheer; points from Salim; the outstanding all court play of Dennison, Walcott and Hicken and the rebounding of Bennett.

Scorers; Walcott 19, Dennison 14, Salim 12, Hicken 9, Bennett 3, Zaheer 2.
