The Derbyshire Arrows U14s continued their successful season as they remained unbeaten at home with a win over Hull Wasps. Hull came into the game with 2 wins and 3 losses, but Coach Jonathan Kelly expressed concentration and execution of their game plan. This worked a treat in the first quarter as Ross Walcott was able to score freely with Connor Hicken and Aidan Dennison. An 8-0 and a 11-0 run either side of a Hull basket set the tone for the Arrows as they were able to stamp their authority on the game straight away with a 27-6 first quarter lead.
The game became even more high scoring in the second quarter as Walcott turned the screw scoring 10 points in the quarter to open up a bigger lead for the Arrows. Their was also a first point for the Arrows for Adam Wood in the middle of an Arrows 21-0 run. The Arrows took the quarter 34-9 and went in with a dominating 61-15 lead at the half.
The Arrows started the second half strong with 3 baskets for Walcott and a basket for James Bennett as the Arrows continued to work. But it was Dennison who was going to dominate the quarter scoring 14 points. Hicken also continued to grind out a big scoring performance from himself scoring in small chunks in each quarter. The third quarter ended in a scoring fest with the Arrows winning 7-4 in the last minute of the quarter. This left the scoreline with a quarter remaining 93-29.
the last quarter started positively again for the Arrows who saw Ellis Salim contributing with a nicely finished layup. The Arrows had something to really cheer about in the fourth quarter as young Alex Lycoudis scored his first national league basket 3 years above his own age group. The U11 guard is the younger brother of U15 captain Andreas Lycoudis and showed his brothers composure to beat his man and lay the ball up. Alex wasn't the only young player to score for the Arrows as U12 captain Wadha Hassan again contributed with 2 baskets at the end of the game. Tom Holland also came close to score but unfortunately didn't drop in the hoop. Hull finished the game with a flurry as the Arrows wound down leaving the scoreline 116-45 in favour of the Arrows.
