Arrows Men in remarkable turn around to reach the smi-finals!
Derbyshire Arrows 79 Northumbria 76
Less than 24 hours removed from a 37 point beating in both teams opening league game of the season, Derbyshire Arrows turned the tables on Team Northumbria with a thrilling 79-76 victory to secure their spot in the semi-finals of the Patrons Cup.
Arrows scored nearly as many points in the first half (42) as they did in the entire game (43) on Saturday as they took a 4 point lead into the locker rooms.
Northumbria hit back to take a one point lead at the final break and the final quarter started in nip and tuck fashion with the game being tied at 60, 62 and 64 as the teams traded scores.
A three by Joseph Baugh put Arrows up midway through the final quarter and a three-point play by Andrew Chiguri saw Arrows go up by 2. As the game went into the final two minutes the teams were again tied at 73 and it was Arrows who made the decisive move thanks to a critical trey from James Bamfield.
Northumbria failed to score on their next two possessions leaving them having to foul to stop the clock. Chiguri made two free throws to make the gap 5 points and despite a three by Jamie Glen there was not enough time for the home team to make further headway.
Chiguri was the main man for Arrows with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Bamfield had 22 points and Baugh had 14 points and 13 boards. For Northumbria Ivan Emanuely had 18 points and Siman Stewart posted a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds.
The closeness of the game was reflected in the fact that both teams posted the exact same number of rebounds, assists and fouls and the difference in turnovers and steals was just one.
Arrows Scorers; Chiguri 27, Bamfield 22, Baugh 14, Lisk-Carew 10, Clyburn 4, Kelly 1, Spare 1
The win means that Arrows top Pool 1 of the competition and will have a home semi-final against the team that eventually finishes second in Pool 2. The other semi-final in the competition will see reigning champs and so far unbeaten Hemel Storm host Team Solent.
