Defence Key As Arrows Claim Victory
Derbyshire Arrows 89-62 London Greenhouse Pioneers
The Arrows Men triumphed in a vital match, putting in one of their best performances of the season to beat the London Pioneers by 89–62. Aggressive defence and well organised offence saw them win every quarter as they visibly grew in confidence throughout the game.
The Arrows shook up their usual starting line up as James Kelly began with a series of assists to Arrows talisman Joseph Baugh and Andreas Lycoudis. The Arrows took the quarter 20–15 against the bigger London side.
The Arrows continued to play well into the second as Matt Wilson and Kendal Glapion were prominent. The Arrows were showing a new intensity in defence which contained a London attack and gave the Arrows a 38–29 advantage at the half.
The Arrows clearly had their game faces on as the second half began and this became the most entertaining of the match as they scored some 29 points which clearly demoralised a London outfit who found themselves trailing 67–44. There were standout performances at both ends for the Arrows with Baugh and Wilson very much to the fore.
The Arrows continued to battle in the fourth quarter in which there was an eye catching spell from Aidan Dennison who completed an and one play as well as several smart plays showing he is settling at this level. The Arrows sealed a final victory of 89-62.
Arrows Scorers: Joseph Baugh 22, Andreas Lycoudis 17, Kendal Glapion 14, Matt Wilson 10, Aidan Dennison 7, Napthali Nembhard 6, Przemek Milak 6, James Kelly 2.
This win puts the Arrows on 2–4 for the season ahead of next Saturdays trip to the West Midlands to face Team Birmingham Elite.
