Arrows refuse to lose home record
Killamarsh Arrows 65 London Westside 60
The Arrows struggled for fluency against a Westside team with a (6 – 2) season record. The Arrows did not get in front until well into the final quarter but showed once again the skill, spirit and determination to pull out a tight victory.
The Arrows struggled in the first quarter to make any impression on the Westside defence with only Akin Lisk – Carew and Andy Chiguri making any impact as they slashed to the basket. The Arrows were indebted to the defence of Sam Spare who limited the Westside advantage at 10 – 18.
The Arrows continued to struggle after the break and in a scrappy match trailed at the interval by 24 – 30 with the style of game and momentum favouring Westside. The Arrows entered the interval under pressure to change the game in the second half.
The Arrows turned to Louis Francis – Edge to start the third quarter and his efforts in defence in particular seemed to lift the team. Lisk - Carew and Chiguri scored and finally RB Clyburn began to be a more significant part of the game. Sam Spare scored a remarkable basket going down the lane which inspired the team. However the Arrows still trailed going into the final quarter by 41 – 42.
The final quarter was to be the best of the game as the Arrows rotation seemed to finally be seen to taking effect on the tiring Westside players and the Arrows with Lisk – Carew making a clutch “3 pointer” and Sam Spare making a number of defensive stops.
The Arrows as they have done a number of times held their nerve in the final minutes and secured a vital win that preserved their unbeaten home record while giving them a 6 – 3 league record overall.
