Killamarsh Sports Centre is proving to become a fortress in the early stages of the season for an Arrows team who extended their unbeaten home run to four games with an 82-53 victory over Eastside Eagles.
The Arrows began brightly against the Eagles zone defence with no less than five 3 pointers in the first quarter. James Bamfield connected from range three times and outside shooting from Kelly and Chiguri helped the Arrows to a 21-17 lead at the end of the first break.
Defence was the key for the young Arrows side in the second quarter as they limited their opponents to just 4 points in the quarter. Sam Spare and a burst of energy from Louis Francis-Edge gave the Arrows a high level of intensity on the defence end, as Clyburn was able to score for the hosts and extend the lead to 14 points at the half time interval. The score at half time read 35-21, in favour of the Arrows.
The Arrows made a strong start to the second half as Lisk-Carew and Baugh started to impose themselves on the Eagles zone defence. Strong defence and intelligent offensive execution from Andrew Purnell further strengthened the Arrows hold on the game as the Arrows cruised to 57-36 with one period remaining.
As Eastside began to tire, the Arrows were clinical in the finishing of the contest as the Arrows won the battle of the fourth quarter by 25-17. Scoring contributions from Baugh, Lisk-Carew and Purnell as well as an emphatic dunk from RB Clyburn extended the Arrows league record to 2-1 in light of an 82-53 victory. The Arrows now face a tough double-header weekend on the road as they visit Hemel Storm on Saturday night before meeting London United on Sunday afternoon.
