Arrows Basketball Club Celebrates 20th Anniversary

Arrows Basketball Club is an England Basketball accredited Clubmark Club (CA0727) with a proven track record of providing high quality basketball development to youngsters within North Derbyshire and the surrounding areas. The Club is run by volunteers on a non profit making basis and provides opportunities at all levels, recreational & elite. The club sets out to develop not only players and participants on the court but as people off it.

A family oriented club , Arrows provides basketball for players as young as 4 years old as well as recreational activities for over 50's.  We have developed strong links with the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, Dronfield Sports Centre in North Derbyshire and most recently with Killamarsh Sports Centre where we will play our 2011-12 home games. The club is well respected by others in the South Yorkshire area and hosts a monthly Development League with Rotherham Hawks, Barnsley, Birkdale School and Dronfield Arrows.

We have an excellent record in developing sport, and obviously basketball in particular, as a way of tackling anti-social behaviour in areas of high crime and social disorder. The club's new relationship with Killamarsh Sports Centre is already strong and there are a number of activities going on in the area.

The club provides coaching to any lovers of the sport, including a local group of partially sighted children, and supports activities in the local junior and senior schools. We have development partnerships with Sheffield Hallam University and Birkdale School, and player exit links with the University of Sheffield.

The Arrows is a key club for the Derbyshire Basketball Association and their long term projects  contributing to the vision of Derbyshire Sport.  Their particular objectives being to invest in people, facilities and technology to increase participation in sport and hence increase performance in sport and promote the value of sport in improving quality of life. The club provides opportunities to promote healthy development through sport.

The club aspires to develop Killamarsh Sports Centre which sits in an area of deprivation as a centre of basketball excellence by developing its facilities and opportunities. We will run a competitive league for 16-25 year olds from October 2011, and develop not only players but officials & referees who are much needed to secure continued growth within our sport.

Focus for 2011/12: GROW, SUSTAIN, RETAIN

There is a lack of opportunity for adults in basketball in the local area and this has seen a significant fall off in the 16-25 age group as youngsters leave secondary school. The club's activities in the area will provide opportunities for over 16s to participate in social/recreational or competitive basketball through the existing Arrows senior club.  This will hopefully allow us to reduce significantly reduce the large 'drop off' in participation locally. The club aims to see membership figures rise above 200 and aid the club's retention.

In 2011/12 all Arrows national league home fixtures will be played at Killamarsh Sports Centre.
